Twittering Estate Agents
Everyone’s aflutter over Twitter. Its trajectory over the last few months has been as steep as North Korea’s recent ‘satellite’ (cough) launch; but unlike the Korean rocket, Twitter continues to rise and rise (insert Vaughan Williams ‘Lark Ascending’ allusion here).
I’d like to brag that FindaProperty.com was one of the pioneers of the medium, but we were somewhat sluggish to jump aboard the bandwagon – November 2008 to be precise.
And like most of the Twitterati, I remain unsure as what exactly Twitter is good for. Real-time search engine? Global noticeboard? Or just a few million people letting another million people know what they’re eating for lunch. Or tea. Or that they are now awake. In case you were interested. Which you weren’t.
Anyway, some of the more web 2.0 savvy, switched-on estate agents have also decided to catch onto the tailfeathers of the little blue bird and are now tweeting with the best of them.
Some use Twitter to announce they’ve got new properties, some tweet about property-related news, whilst others gaze silently around in wide-eyed wonder, as bemused as our very own Sales Director, but gamely determined not be left behind:

Should you wish to follow them, here’s a selection of Estate Agents on Twitter:

If I’ve not mentioned your agency on Twitter, then let me know and we’ll start following you. But only if you follow us first: http://twitter.com/FindaProperty.
Quid pro quo, Clarice. Quid pro quo.

Meh, I don’t get Twitter. It all seems rather pointless.
Like your Sales Director, I’ve embraced the technology, but only to keep with the trends.
Well I tried to follow you using the above link but the page didn’t exist. However, please feel free to follow me on http://twitter.com/houseofmydreams.
cheers

I believe twitter is a great free marketing tool.
This will become increasingly important in this new online age.
Like the most, we have a twitter address, however I am not quite sure how it is a great marketing tool. At the moment most of our customers are people who live local or want to live in the area of one of our branches.
The thinking goes that you keep up with them via Twitter after they have bought/sold and while they are doing it too – i guess you could say it’s about building relationships.
The purpose behind social media is not to advertise. It is to connect with other people that are involved/interested in your field. As soon as you advertise, people will ignore you. Links to properties and news headlines etc will not work. It requires no effort. However, engaging with other estate agents from across the country, sharing ideas and information is priceless. Providing real value and content for users will show you as a market expert and will give you a huge amount of credibility. So many people jump on the band wagon without doing the research into how they should be doing it.
Does anyone else feel like it’s not the majority of agents who are on twitter rather than the minority? It’s almost a must… or at least a “why not?” at this point!
