Most Expensive Streets in England and Wales

Recent research from the Halifax has identified the top twenty most expensive streets in England and Wales.
Based on transactions recorded on the Land Registry between 2005 and 2009, the Halifax report reveals that the top ten streets with the highest price tags were all located in Greater London.
Of these, seven streets were situated in the [...]

Housing Market Looking More Positive

Today’s report from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors shows a rise in buyer enquiries, a rise in sales agreed, more optimism among surveyors about house prices, and a fall in stock levels.
I had a chat with our statisticians this morning, and our own numbers echo this:
•    In April, enquiries to estate agents were up [...]

MPC Member Predicts House Price Recovery

Interesting Q&A with MPC member Kate Barker over at the Spectator on why the housing market and the economy hit the skids.
Barker, who did a review of housing supply for the government, makes some pretty strong statements, among them that the target for housebuilding may now be defunct due to demographic changes and that the [...]

Are We Over The Worst (Or Am I Losing It)?

Last week I asked whether it was time to start buying again. Among those who responded 65 per cent said no, the market has further to fall and 35 per cent said yes, we’re over the worst.
My own view is this: the market does have further to fall, but yes, we are over the worst [...]

•    House prices ‘up by 25 per cent by 2013′ – The Guardian.
The first is based on a report from Roger Bootle of Capital Economics. The second is based on a report produced for [...]

Are House Price Falls Bad News?

“Evan, EVAN, could I just finish answering the question if that’s ok….”
Housing Minister Caroline Flint was on a hiding to nothing this morning as she tried to avoid questions about the Government’s housing policy and the likelihood of actually building 3m new homes by 2020.
She was, however, given a bit of a mauling by Evan [...]

Price Rise My Ar**!

Some of our readers have scoffed at a story we published on Wednesday: House Prices Rose In April.
They think we’re trying to talk up the market, distort the truth and deny the reality of what’s currently happening to house prices.
Gareth Evans writes: “Amazing that you are still trying to hoodwink the populace and attempt to [...]

Isn’t It Ironic? Don’t Cha Think?

The guv’nor and ‘is bird
We’re not talking Alanis Morrisette “rain on your wedding day” irony here, we’re talking actual, implying-the-opposite-of-what-is-the-case kind of irony – the kind that has you scratching your head like an evolutionary throwback while emitting a series of bewildered guttural croaks.
The cause of my confusion, bordering upon chagrin, stems from Guy Ritchie’s [...]

My Eyes! My Eyes!

I’ve just discovered what happens when you finally pull the cork from a bottle of pent up housing market fury. The results are colourful, to say the least.

At first I was rendered speechless (and nearly blind) by this teletext-inspired nightmare – a creation, I suspect, that was fuelled by late night Pro Plus binges with [...]
