Here’s possibly the coolest thing I’ve seen all day. Some deck builder (that’s skateboards not verandas) over in Canada has specced out his board-building school with a very special staircase

As eager students hurry towards the basement to learn the ancient craft of skateboard construction, their scuffed up Supras and dirty Vans will have to navigate down the very creation they aspire to master.

Ted Hunter, who built the stylin’ staircase, custom designed the boards for the steps, rather than plunk any old deck into the space.

Personally, I think the griptape would have been a nice touch, but instead Ted made one edge concave as opposed to the usual two – presumably to stop people tripping on the lip.

And why no wheels? Just like the Annie chair blogged about here, someone gets a mad invention idea and then has to go and make it safe- pah!

And a handrail has also been added since this picture was taken. Presumably to meet some sort of killjoy health and safety standard, although grinding is apparently optional.

If this has whetted your staircase appetite there’s a plethora of pictures over at Stair Porn that should satisfy those stairway cravings.
